Eagles edge Barnesville 40-28 at triangular

Bode Roberts continued his stellar senior season as the ninth ranked wrestler in the state at 215 lbs. took second place at the Big Ole Invitational on Saturday in Alexandria. In all, seven wrestlers placed at the tournament as the Eagles finished in seventh place as a team.

This week the Eagles will host Frazee and United Clay Becker on Thursday night as part of parents night, senior night and the dedication of the Rich Ericksrud wrestling room festivities, before hosting its annual middle school tournament on Friday and Saturday night. 

Thursday

NY Mills split a triangular with Barnesville and Walker-Hackensack-Akeley at home on Thursday night.

The Eagles defeated the Trojans by a score of 40-28 after winning six of the final seven matches of the night. Five of the wins came by either forfeit or pin to help the Eagles overcome a 28-6 deficit heading into the 145 lbs. 

In their other match of the day, NY Mills fell to 7-6 on the season with a 34-33 loss to WHA. Results from that match were not available at the time of press.

Saturday

NY Mills took seventh place overall and seven wrestlers placed at the annual Big Ole Tournament in Alexandria on Saturday.

Ninth ranked Bode Roberts led the charge for the Eagles as he won by a tech fall over Jay Harkema of Kerkoven-Murdock-Sunburg in the opening round, before pinning Kaden Kolm of Royalton/Upsala in the semi-finals in just 40 seconds. 

Those two wins set up a match against Class AA third ranked and undefeated Nathan Klatt of Annandale/Maple Lake. Roberts took Klatt the distance and fell by an 8-3 decision to finish in second place. 

Blake Unger advanced to the third place match at 172 lbs. after winning a 7-1 decision over Conner Kurth of Hutchinson in the consolation semi-finals. Unger fell to Cael Fier of Minneota in the third place match by a 6-1 decision to finish in fourth place.

Other Eagles placing at the Big Ole Invite include: Creed Mursu in fifth place at 127 lbs., Elijah Geiser in sixth place at 145 lbs., Austin Geiser in sixth place at 152 lbs., Joe Mann in fifth place at 160 lbs. and Grady Roberts in sixth place at 285 lbs.
