NYM wins for sixth time in past eight games

New York Mills split a pair of Park Region Conference games against Verndale and Sebeka last week. The Eagles are now 7-7 overall and 5-3 in the Park Region Conference. 

After starting the season with a record of 1-5, the Eagles have went 6-2 over the course of the past month.

This week the Eagles will host Browerville on Monday night, before hosting Wadena-Deer Creek on Thursday night and traveling to Frazee on Saturday. 

Jan. 9

NY Mills came away with a commanding 74-33 win over Pillager on Jan. 9. The Huskies were able to hit eight 3-pointers as a tough Eagle defensive performance limited the Huskies to just 12 made field goals. Meanwhile, NY Mills hit 29 field goals and went 13-18 from the free throw line.

The Eagles were led offensively by Ayla Olson who scored 22 points. She also eclipsed 1,000 career points in the Park Region Conference win.

Gabi Vaden had one of her best offensive games of the season as she scored 19 points, while Annika Dunrud and Alayna Baune each scored 9 points. Rosemary Laudenbach scored 8 points, Grace Brasel scored 4 points, Violet Radniecki scored 2 points and Abby Riedel rounded out the scoring with 1 point. 

Jan. 11

NY Mills once again flexed its defensive muscle on Jan. 11 as the Eagles gave up just 17 points in the first half on their way to a 61-51 win over Bertha-Hewitt. NY Mills led 35-17 at halftime thanks to a balanced scoring attack in which seven Eagles reached the scoring column in the opening 18 minutes of action. 

The Bears clawed back in the game in the second half, but NY Mills did enough down the stretch to hold off Bertha-Hewitt and come away with the win. 

NY Mills was led offensively by Grace Brasel who scored 15 points after going 3-4 from behind the 3-point line. She also finished with 6 rebounds in the win. Annika Dunrud also reached double figures with 11 points to go along with 6 assists and 3 steals. Gabi Vaden scored 8 points, Ayla Olson scored 7 points to go along with a team-high 13 rebounds, while Rosemary Laudenbach scored 7 points, Alayna Baune scored 6 points, Katherin Garcia scored 5 points and Abby Riedel rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
