Team to kick off a three game home stand this week

New York Mills picked up its fifth win since the start of the new year as the Eagles defeated Browerville by a score of 62-42 on Monday night. On Thursday the Eagles fell to Wadena-Deer Creek by a score of 54-51 to fall to 8-8 overall and 5-4 in the conference.

This week the Eagles will kick off an extended home stand as they travel to Menahga on Tuesday night to take on the conference leading Braves, before hosting Pillager on Thursday. That will kick off a three game home stand for NY Mills.

Jan. 16

Seven Eagles scored at least 6 points as NY Mills cemented its status among the top half of the teams in the Park Region Conference with a 65-60 overtime win over Verndale on Jan. 16. 

The Eagles held a 24-19 lead at halftime, before the Pirates were able to claw back into the game in the second half and force overtime. That’s when the Eagles were able to do just enough to keep the Pirates at bay and come away with another important conference win on Jan. 16. 

Both teams played well defensively throughout the night as they both finished with 15 steals and forced 26 turnovers. The big difference came on the boards as NY Mills held a 35-25 advantage in rebounding and shot 40 percent from the field. 

Ayla Olson led the charge for the Eagles as she recorded a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. She also finished with a team-high 8 steals.

Annika Dunrud scored 11 points and 6 rebounds, while Alayna Baune scored 10 points. Rosemary Laudenbach, Violet Radniecki and Grace Brasel each scored 7 points and Gabi Vaden rounded out the scoring with 6 points.

NY Mills struggled to find its shot in the first half against the Sebeka Trojans on Jan. 19. The Eagles scored just 4 points in the first half and trailed by a score of 23-4 at halftime, before both teams picked up the offensive pace in the second half as the Trojans would go on to defeat the Eagles by a score of 54-28 on Jan. 19.

As a team the Eagles shot just 23 percent from the field and turned the ball over 27 times in the loss. Alayna Baune led the way offensively with 7 points after finishing a perfect 3-3 from the field. Katherin Garcia finished with 6 points, while Grace Brasel scored 4 points. Abby Riedel, Ayla Olson, Violet Radniecki, Gabi Vaden and Rosemary Laudenbach each scored 2 points and Annika Dunrud rounded out the scoring with 1 point.
