The New York Mills Eagles dropped a pair of games on Feb. 1 and Feb. 2.

The Eagles lost a tight game to Menahga on Thursday, Feb. 1 by a score of 67-57. Throughout the game the Eagles held on to a lead and the game was actually tied with just 2 minutes left in the game. Unfortunately, Menahga made a 3-pointer on back-to-back plays that proved to be the difference in the game.

“I was really impressed how we handled their zone press and half court 2-3 zone as we scored at a very high rate for us, making them play us man to man for the remainder of the game,” said head coach Mike Baune. “I really enjoyed seeing how competitive we were and thought we put up a solid enough effort to win the game had a few different things broke our way.”

Sam Kopveiler led the way offensively with a double-double after scoring 16 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Teagan Lausten scored 16 points go along with 4 rebounds and 5 assist. Jacob Thorsrud also recorded a double-double as he scored 11 points to go along with 16 rebounds.

On Friday, Feb. 2 the Eagles fell to an athletic Frazee Hornet team by a score of 66-23. The Hornets pressed the Eagles from the start of the game and jumped out to a 20-0 lead and never looked back.

Baune said the Eagles had tired legs in the game, but he wasn’t happy with the NY Mills’ compete level in the game. While the game didn’t go NY Mills’ way, he said one positive from the game was several bench players got extended minutes and a few scored their first basket on the varsity level.

Last week the Eagles fell to 0-20 on the season when they lost to Pillager by a score of 61-50, Henning by a score of 90-28 and Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal by a score of 64-53.

This week the Eagles will travel to Park Christian on Tuesday, Bertha-Hewitt on Thursday and Clearbrook-Gonvick on Friday.
