Community survey available on qualities sought for a new superintendent

The school board of New York Mills School District is conducting a search for a new superintendent. The school board contracted with the Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA) to guide and provide assistance throughout the process.

The school board met on Feb. 5, to plan the search. An important part of the search process is gathering stakeholder input for the Board to consider as it moves forward in selecting the new superintendent, and here are two ways the public can engage in the search process.

Superintendent search survey

An anonymous public survey is now available for all stakeholders to fill out between February 8 to March 4. Check out the New York Mills School District ISD 553 social media platforms to complete the New York Mills Public School Superintendent Search Survey.

Hard copies of the survey are also available at the district office in New York Mills. Please return any completed surveys to this same location by March 4 so they can be included with the online survey results.

Following the survey deadline of March 4, MSBA will summarize and provide an overview of the responses for presentation to the school board.

Virtual question, answer session with MSBA

To ensure all district stakeholders have access to accurate information regarding search processes and expectations, MSBA will host a virtual Q&A with MSBA at on Tuesday, Feb. 20 4 p.m. Check out the school’s social media platforms to join the Zoom session at that time. All stakeholders are invited to attend the live session; however, to accommodate busy schedules as well as ensure access to search information, the session will also be recorded and made available on the district website for the remainder of the search.

Questions about the search process can be submitted anonymously in advance online. The link for submissions can be found on the school’s social media platforms. Deadline for submittal of advance questions is Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 12 p.m. Questions may also be submitted during the session using the chat box.

The school district is hoping the public can join MSBA for this overview of the upcoming search process. Those who are unable to join the meeting live can visit the district website to watch the recording at a later date.
