The New York Mills speech team competed at the Underwood Lions Invitational at Underwood High School on Saturday, Feb. 10. There were 17 schools and over 200 competitors at the meet. The NY Mills speech team placed 11th out of 17. 

Brooke Sonsalla placed fifth in Discussion Finals and earned superior in Original Oratory with a persuasive speech she wrote about abolishing supervised release and earned-incentive credits. 

Payton Lausten for placed first in Prose Interpretation Next-In Honor Finals with Tamira Ireland Stone’s young adult novel, Every Last Word.

Sophia Godinez-Milantoni for placed third in Humorous Interpretation with the Comedy Mystery, Get a Clue, by Megan Orr.

Elijah Geiser for placed fifth in Prose Interpretation Next-In Honor Finals with Lois Lowry’s award-winning novel, The Giver.

Each of the competitors are in their first year in speech at NY Mills School.

This week the Eagles will travel to Perham to compete in the Perham Jacket Classic.
