The New York Mills Eagles wrapped up their regular season with a thrilling 42-39 win over Frazee on Friday night. The win came on the heels of a win over Battle Lake by a score of 44-36 on Tuesday night and a 47-41 loss to Lake Park-Audubon on Thursday night.

The Eagles finished the regular season with a record of 12-14 overall and will now turn their attention to the sub section tournament which kicks off this week. 

The Eagles received the fifth seed and will travel to Ada-Borup West on Thursday night. The winner of the game will take on either eighth seeded Henning/ninth seeded Lake Park-Audubon or top seeded Park Christian on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Perham.

On the other side of the sub section, second seeded Underwood will host either seventh seeded Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal or 10th seeded Battle Lake and third seeded Hillcrest will host sixth seeded Rothsay.

Tuesday

NY Mills took a 22-17 lead at halftime and never looked back as they defeated Battle Lake by a score of 44-36 on Tuesday night. 

Ayla Olson returned to the lineup after missing several games with an injury and had a huge night from the field. The junior scored 18 points to go along with 16 rebounds. She also had 6 steals in the win.

Annika Dunrud scored 8 points, while Alayna Baune and Rosemary Laudenbach each scored 5 points, and Gabi Vaden and Grace Brasel rounded out the scoring with 4 points apiece. 

As a team the Eagles shot just 24 percent from the field, but hit 8 free throws that proved to be the difference in the game.

Thursday

NY Mills trailed just 19-17 at the halftime break, but Lake Park-Audubon hit four second half 3-pointers to hold the Eagles at bay by a score of 47-41. In a game in which both teams played solid defense throughout the contest, the Eagles shot just 24.6 percent from the field, while forcing 25 Raider turnovers on the other end of the court. NY Mills finished with 18 steals in the game, but went just 4-27 from behind the 3-point line when they were trying to catch up.

Ayla Olson once again recorded a double-double as she finished with 16 points to go along with 17 rebounds and 6 steals.

Annika Dunrud scored 9 points, while Alayna Baune scored 6 points and pulled down 4 rebounds, Rosemary Laudenbach scored 5 points, Violet Radniecki finished with 3 points and Grace Brasel rounded out the scoring with 2 points.

Friday

In their final regular season game of the season, NY Mills defeated Frazee by a score of 42-39 on Friday night.

After trailing by a score of 19-18 at the half, the Eagles were able to pick up the pace in the second half as four players reached the scoring column in the final 18 minutes of action. In the first half Ayla Olson scored 12 points and Grace Brasel scored the other 6 points to keep the Eagles within striking distance. 

As a team the Eagles shot 30 percent from the field, but were 13-33 from inside the 3-point line. They also had a solid night at the free throw line to keep the Hornets at bay as they went 10-12 from the charity stripe. 

Defensively NY Mills was solid as they forced 21 Frazee turnovers and held them to just 23 percent shooting on their home court. The Hornets went just 6-32 from behind the 3-point line and were outrebounded by a 41-31 margin.

Ayla Olson continued to make her presence felt last week as she recorded her third straight double-double with 19 points and 20 rebounds. Alayna Baune finished with 8 points and 5 rebounds, while Rosemary Laudenbach scored 7 points in the win. Grace Brasel finished with 6 points and Violet Radniecki rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
