The fifth seeded New York Mills Eagles came up just short in their bid to knock off the fourth seeded Ada-Borup West Cougars on Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the sub section tournament.

The Eagles fell by a score of 68-61 as they ended their season with a record of 12-15 overall.

After trailing by a score of 37-27 at halftime, the Eagles were able to outscore of 36-31 thanks to four second half 3-pointers as well as going 8-12 from the free throw line in the final 18 minutes of action. Unfortunately, the Cougars were able to make their free throws in the final minutes of the game to stymie a NY Mills comeback attempt to end their season in the sub section tournament.

Ayla Olson and Annika Dunrud led the way offensively for the Eagles as Olson scored 19 points to go along with 4 rebounds. Dunrud hit three 3-pointers and finished with 18 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists, while Gabi Vaden scored 7 points, Rosemary Laudenbach and Alayna Baune reached scored 6 points, Abby Reidel scored 3 points and Violet Radniecki rounded out the scoring with 2 points.

As a team the Eagles shot nearly 45 percent from the field and forced 17 Ada-Borup West turnovers, including 10 steals to push the tempo on the offensive end of the court.

The loss ends NY Mills’ season with a record of 12-15 overall.
