The New York Mills Economic Development Authority met last week for their regular monthly meeting to discuss economic updates within the city.
An update on the South Point project was given by Julie Roberts, city clerk. She said that W Gohman Construction started on interior work on the building and have likely already started pouring concrete inside the structure. The roof was shingled over the past few weeks and many of the windows and sliding doors have been installed on the exterior.
South Point Apartments are not yet open for applications, but those interested in securing a unit are able to call W Gohman Construction and give them their information to be placed on a list for those desiring to be tenants. The apartment building will feature 60 units, a community space, tuck-under garages and will be market-rate housing open to all. The estimated completion date is as early this fall.
Roberts also said that the two lots to the south across South Point Drive from the apartment building are currently tied in a purchase agreement with Otter Tail County as the county applies for a second time to secure grant funding to build a senior housing duplex on those lots. The county failed to secure the funding for 2024 and will try again for 2025. Until then, the future of those lots are uncertain.
