Youth wrestlers from New York Mills competed in the NYWA (Northland Youth Wrestling Association)  Region 5 Tournament in Bemidji from March 22-23. To participate in the region a wrestler must place high enough at a qualifying tournament.  The top three in each weight class advance to the state tournament in Rochester April 5-7.

Advancing in the individual NYWA to participate in the state tournament:

• Pre K-K 50 lb: Steel Mursu third place

• Pre K-K 55 lb: Rudy Kern first place

• 1st-2nd grade 80 lb: Teagan Saewert first place

• 3rd-4th grade 60 lb: Max Geiser first place

• 3rd-4th grade 64 lb: Teeg Mursu second place

• 3rd-4th grade 155 lb: Ella Saewert third place

• 5th-6th grade 130 lb: Greyson Saewert third place

• 7th-8th grade 125 lb: Elijah O’Dea second place

• 7th-8th grade 160 lb: Wesston Simpson third place

In a very tough field of wrestlers the following all placed fourth missing the state tournament by one match: Oakley Kern, Jaeger Zutter and Conley Kern.  

Also participating in the individual tournament were: Micah Geiser, Oscar Geiser, Gage Hotakainan, Ryker Zutter, Drake Green, Anthony Berndt, Briggs Geiser, Brody Bernu, Chavez Canon and Kallen Theisen.
