The New York Mills speech team competed in the sub section tournament on Saturday. Eight NY Mills students have advanced to the section meet, which will be held on Saturday in Menahga.

On Saturday April 4, the New York Mills speech team competed at the MSHSL Subsection 23A tournament hosted in Pequot Lakes. Eight students advanced to the Section 6A tournament to be hosted in Menahga on Saturday, April 13. The Section 6A Tournament will determine who advances to state. 

*Simon Resing placed first in Informative Speaking; his speech is about the future of Nuclear Fusion.

*Payton Lausten turned 16 and placed hird in Prose Interpretation with a cutting from Tamira Ireland Stone’s Young Adult novel, Every Last Word. 

*Brooke Sonsalla placed hird in Discussion. The tournament’s tasks were about the longevity of mass media, communication issues in multinational companies, and cable vs. streaming networks. 

*Soren Stout placed fourth in Discussion. 

*Elijah Geiser placed fifth in Poetry Interpretation with various poems about men’s mental health.

Julia Johnson placed fifth in Great Speeches with her analysis of Emma Watson’s speech for Gender Equality at the 2014 UN General Assembly.

Owen Johnson placed sixth in Dramatic Interpretation with E.M Lewis’ one-man-show, “The Gun Show.”

*Garrett Uselman placed sixth in Humorous Interpretation with an episode from the Netflix series, Young Sheldon.
