New York Mills opened its season on the wrong side of a pair of high scoring games last week.

On Tuesday night the Eagles opened their season with a 15-9 loss to Parkers Prairie, before falling to Otter Tail Central by a score of 21-8 on Thursday night.

This week the Eagles will look to get in the win column as they traveled to Browerville on Monday, before hosting Menahga in a Park Region Conference game on Tuesday. On Friday the Eagles will travel to Verndale to take on the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders in another conference matchup.

NY Mills erupted for seven runs in the top of the fourth inning to blow past Parkers Prairie 7-3, but it wasn’t enough as the Panthers were able to get the best of the Eagles by a score of 15-9 in Tuesday’s regular season opener.

Trailing 3-0 heading into the fourth inning, Brayden Ehnert and Blake Unger led off the inning with back-to-back singles.
Ehnert would later score on a Carter Hudalla RBI single. Unger would score when Eli Vaughn reached on an error and Hunter Bosman tied the game at 3-3 when he hit an RBI double to bring Hudalla across the plate and leave runners on second and third base with one out.

Finn Roder loaded the bases with a walk, before Teagan Lausten gave the Eagles their first lead of the game when he hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring Vaughn across the plate to score to make the game 4-3 in favor of the Eagles. Dashaun Robinson followed with a two-run double and Ehnert came to the plate for the second time in the inning to hit an RBI single and give the Eagles a 7-3 lead.

Unfortunately, the Panthers were able to score one run in the fourth, six in the fifth and five more in the bottom of the sixth inning to eventually come away with a 15-9 win. The Eagles added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning as part of a two out rally.

The Eagles were led offensively by Brayden Ehnert who went 4-4 with a pair of runs scored. Hunter Bosman went 3-4 with two RBIs, while Robinson and Unger each finished with a pair of hits.

Robinson took the loss on the mound for the Eagles as he pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up 11 hits and five earned runs.

Seven NY Mills errors led to 10 unearned runs as the Eagles fell to Otter Tail Central by a score of 21-8 on Thursday night. The Bulldogs scored three runs in the first inning, two in the third inning and eight more in the fifth inning to take a 13-0. Needing to score at least four runs to keep the game going, NY Mills scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, all of which came with two outs.

Isaac Kawlewski drew a walk with one out, before Hunter Bosman reached on an error to leave runners on first and second base. Following a fly out to center field for the second out of the inning, NY Mills scored its first run of the game on a Teagan Lausten RBI double to leave runners on second and third base. Lausten and Bosman would later score when DaShaun Robinson reached on an error and Brayden Ehnert made the game 13-4 when he hit an RBI single to bring Robinson across the plate.

The big inning continued when Grady Roberts hit a two-run double to make the score 13-6 in favor of OTC.

After OTC scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning, the Eagles once again had their backs against the wall, before Robinson hit a two-run single with the bases loaded to make the score 17-8 in favor of OTC. The Bulldogs added five more runs in the top of the seventh inning to end the game by a sore of 21-8.

Ehnert and Unger led the way offensively for the Eagles with two hits apiece, while Lausten took the loss on the mound as he went three innings and gave up just one earned run and four hits.
