NYM to compete at UNC, Hawley this week

The New York Mills track teams were finally able to head outside for a pair of meets last week. 

The Eagles competed in the Otter Tail Central Invite on Tuesday, before heading to Pillager on Thursday for a large 10-team meet. Throughout the week several Eagles not only set season best times, but personal bests as well.

This week the Eagles will head to United North Central on Tuesday, before traveling to Hawley in a pair of meets this week. 

Tuesday

The NY Mills track teams got their outdoor season underway on Tuesday at the Otter Tail Central Invite in Battle Lake. Payton Lausten and Shaila Roberts picked up a first place finish for the girls, while Jeron Witt secured the top spot in the 3200-meter run for the boys.

Lausten had a busy day for the Eagles as she took first place in the 300-meter hurdles with a season best time of 53.63, while also capturing fourth place in the 100-meter dash with a personal best time of 14.32. 

Roberts took first place in the shot put with a personal best of 27’6”. She also took fifth place in the discus with a personal best of 70’3”. 

Katherin Garcia posted a season best time of 1:07.64 to finish in second place in the 400-meter dash and set another season best time of 29.84 to finish in fourth place in the 200-meter dash. Morgyn O’Dea also posted a season best time in the 400-meter dash to finish in fourth place with a time of 1:10.8.

On the boys side, Witt posted a season best time of 15:25.73 to finish in first place in the 3200-meter run, while Cole Wilson posted a pair of personal bests to finish in second place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.30 and third place in the long jump with a jump of 17’4”. 

Carl Peterman placed fifth in the shot put with a personal best throw of 33’8” and Alex Mack posted a personal best mark in the 1600-meter run to finish in sixth place with a time of 6:16.08.

Other Eagles setting personal records, but not placing in the top eight were Mack in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:44.46, Peterman in the discus with a throw of 81’6”, Elijah Kaufmann in the shot put with a throw of 21’11” and the discus with a throw of 60’4”, while Witt set a season best in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:57.45. 

Thursday

NY Mills continued to post season best and personal best times at their second meet in just three days last week. On Thursday the Eagles traveled to Pillager to compete in a 10-team meet. 

Jada Goeson led the way for the Eagles as she took second place in the 800-meter run with a season best time of 2:30.86. Payton Lausten posted a season best time in the 300-meter hurdles to take fifth place with a time of 53.21, while Katherin Garcia and Morgyn O’Dea finished within .04 seconds of each other in the 400-meter dash. Garcia took sixth place with a time of 1:09.5, while O’Dea took seventh place with a season best time of 1:09.54. 

On the boys side, Elijah Geiser posted a pair of season best times as he took fifth place in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:32.2 and seventh place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:30.13. 

Jeron Witt also posted as season best time in the 3200-meter run to capture seventh place with a time of 14:38.22. Witt also posted a new season best in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:34.65. 

Also setting a new personal best on Thursday was Alex Mack in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:03.62, Geiser in the long jump with a jump of 16’4”, Elijah Kaufmann in the long jump with a jump of 14’4”, Carl Peterman in both the shot put with a throw of 33’9” and the discus with a throw of 85’1”.
