NYM improves to 7-5 overall

The New York Mills Eagles improved to 7-5 overall and 4-4 in the Park Region Conference with three wins, including the conclusion of a game started the week beforehand.

On Monday the Eagles defeated Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale by a score of 7-3, before edging the fourth ranked team in the state in parkers Prairie by a sore of 6-3. The Eagles also completed a game that began on May 2 against Otter Tail Central and came away with an 11-1 win.

The lone Eagles loss last week came at the hands of Wadena-Deer Creek by a score of 10-3.

This week the Eagles hosted Menahga on Monday, Pillager on Tuesday, Upsala-Swanville on Thursday and Wadena-Deer Creek on Friday.

Monday

Sam Kopveiler picked up a complete game win as he surrendered just three unearned runs and five hits as the NY Mills Eagles defeated Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale by a sore of 7-3 on Monday night. 

NY Mills took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Dashaun Robinson hit a sacrifice fly to right field and Brayden Ehnert grounded into a fielder’s choice to bring one run across the plate. 

After the Raiders made the game 2-1 in the top of the third inning when they scored a run on an error, the Eagles broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning when Kopveiler helped his own cause with a sacrifice fly to center with one out to make the score 3-1 in favor of the Eagles. The next six hitters reached base safely including an RBI double by Robinson, an RBI triple by Bode Roberts, an RBI single by Ehnert and an RBI single by Finn Roder to make the score 7-1.

BHV scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning, but NY Mills closed the door to come away with the win.

Tuesday

NY Mills outhit Wadena-Deer Creek 9-8, but WDC struck for six runs in the bottom of the third inning to come away with a 10-3 win on Tuesday night.
The big inning for the Wolverines was highlighted by a two-run double and a grand slam to give them a 6-0 lead. 

NY Mills scored a single run in the top of the fourth inning on a Hunter Bosman RBI double with two outs and added a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Teagan Lausten and a fielder’s choice by Dashaun Robinson. 

Bode Roberts and Bosman led the way offensively for the Eagles with two hits apiece, while Brayden Ehnert took the loss on the mound as he went 4 innings and gave up six earned runs and five hits.

Wednesday

NY Mills picked up its biggest win of the season on Wednesday night as the Eagles defeated the top ranked team in the QRF and state ranked fourth team in Class A in Parkers Prairie by a score of 6-3. 

The Panthers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, before NY Mills tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Teagan Lausten, a sacrifice fly by Dashaun Robinson and a two out single by Bode Roberts to make the score 3-3. 

The Eagles took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning with three more runs. After the opening two hitters of the inning went down in order, Robinson and Roberts hit back-to-back singles, before Brayden Ehnert earned a walk to load up the bases. Blake Unger came through with a clutch two out single to bring a pair of runs across the plate. Grady Roberts followed just one hitter later with an RBI single of his own to make the score 6-3 in favor of the Eagles. 

Robinson sent the Panthers down in order in the top of the seventh inning to come away with the 6-3 win. Robinson picked up the win on the mound as he went seven innings and gave up just one earned run and struck out three hitters.
