Memorial Day weekend isn’t just a time for people to fire up the grill and head to the lake for the first time—it is an opportunity to pay respect to individuals and their families who paid the ultimate sacrifice defending the country.

Two Memorial Day programs are being planned in the New York Mills and Deer Creek area on Monday morning.

The first program will be held on Monday morning at 10 a.m. in the James Mann Auditorium at the NY Mills School. The NY Mills band and choir will be performing and the Charles D. Center VFW Post 3289 and the auxiliary will present the colors and memorial ritual. There will also be a keynote speaker during the Memorial Day program.

The second program will be held at the Deer Creek Community Center.

The day will begin with a breakfast, including everything from French toast, pancakes, egg bake and more from 7:30-10 a.m. The breakfast will be followed by the annual Memorial Day program at the Deer Creek Community Center beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The Deer Creek program will include guest speaker, state senator Jordan Rasmusson, as well as music, readings, laying of the wreaths and a 21-gun salute.
