Charles D. Center VFW Post 3289 was organized April 28, 1935, in New York Mills.  On October 30, 1938, the Auxiliary was formed. The common Mission of the VFW Post and Auxiliary is to serve and to advocate for our veterans, our military and our communities. There have been many changes throughout the years but serving our military, their families and the community is a constant.  The members of VFW Post 3289 and the Auxiliary have been recognized by the State of Minnesota VFW Department for their service to the community. In 2023-2024, over $56,000.00 was donated to organizations and individuals and 1,000’s of volunteer hours performed by members within the community.

The New York Mills VFW organizes Memorial and Veteran’s Day programs, provides military honors at funerals, and marches in parades and local events, proudly carrying the flag of the United States of America.

The VFW partners with schools providing educational programs on Americanism and Patriotism, contact legislators regarding veterans’ issues and pending bills, award scholarships showcasing the talent of local youth, provide continuing education scholarships and cancer grants.  The Post and Auxiliary are keenly aware of the assistance our Veterans and support their families require in goods and services, we volunteer at Veteran and non-veteran medical facilities, and we work with Youth Groups and other non-profits.

The VFW is a place for veterans and non-veterans, those actively serving in the military, families and the community to come together. Those who are interested in the work the VFW does, please join them. New members are welcomed to join at any time. A VFW member must have served in an overseas conflict. The Auxiliary must be a relative of a VFW-eligible veteran.
