A four-run bottom of the sixth inning was just enough for the New York Mills Millers as they defeated the Deer Creek Shockers by a score of 6-5 on Wednesday night.
The Millers, who were trailing 4-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, had six straight hitters reach base safely to lead off the sixth inning. Brayden Ehnert and Logan Small led off the inning with back-to-back doubles with Small’s hit bringing Ehnert across the plate.
After Zach Hocking walked to put runners on first and second base, DaShaun Robinson followed with the third Miller double in four at bats as he brought Small across the plate to tie the game at 4-4. Teagan Lausten and Jonah Ruther followed with back-to-back RBI single to make the score 6-4 in favor of the Millers.
The Shockers were able to get out of the inning without any further damage and made the score 6-5 with an RBI single with two outs in the top of the eighth inning.
Small was able to strand the tying run at first base in the top of the ninth inning to come away with the 6-5 win for the Millers.
The Millers also picked up runs in the bottom of the first inning on a Hocking RBI single, as well as the third inning when Derin Gaudette connected for a solo home run.
The Shockers scored three runs in the top of the third inning and another in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI double.
The Millers are currently in third place in the Region 14C and Hi-10 with a record of 11-4 in the region and 8-3 in the Hi-10.
Bluffton leads the region and Hi-10 with a record of 13-2 overall and 10-2 in the Hi-10, while Deer Creek is 12-4 in the region and 9-4 in the Hi-10. Perham is in fourth place with a record of 10-6 in the region and 10-3 in the Hi-10.
The Millers will wrap up their regular season this week when they travel to Clarissa on Friday and Dent on Saturday night.
