NYM defeats Dent for 14th win of the season

The New York Mills Millers improved to 14-4 overall and 11-3 in the Hi-10 with a pair of wins over the weekend.

On Friday night the Millers defeated Clarissa by a score of 14-6, before defeating Dent by a score of 15-3. 

The Millers will now gear up for the Region 14C playoffs which kick off this weekend. The playoff schedule was not available at the time of press. 

Friday

NY Mills jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they defeated Clarissa by a score of 14-6. 

Derin Gaudette led off the game with a solo home run, before Logan Small scored on a wild pitch in the top of the first inning to make the score 2-0. Adam Patron put the Millers up 4-0 with a two-run single with two outs. 

Clarissa cut the score to 4-3 with single runs in the first, second and fourth innings and scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 5-4 lead. 

From there it was all Millers as Patron, Hunter Holtti and Jonah Johnson all walked in succession in the top of the sixth inning with one out and scored on a Gaudette bases clearing double to put the Millers up 7-5. 

Just one inning later, Johnson hit a two-run single and Gaudette followed with an RBI double to make the score 10-5 in favor of the Millers. 

NY Mills added another run in the eighth inning and Small brought three runs across the plate with a double to end the scoring with the Millers on top 14-6. 

Saturday

The Millers scored runs in bunches on Saturday night as they came away with a 15-3 win over Dent on the road. 

Derin Gaudette put the Millers up 1-0 with a two out RBI single in the top of the second inning, before Dent tied the game with an RBI single of their own with two outs in the bottom half of the inning. The game remained tied until the top of the fourth inning when Collin Teich hit an RBI double, Jonah Johnson followed with an RBI triple and Logan Small grounded into a fielder’s choice to bring the third run of the inning across the plate and make the score 4-1. 

Dent put together a little rally of its own in the bottom half of the fourth inning as they scored a pair of runs to cut the score to 4-3. From there it was all Millers as they scored five runs in the fifth inning on a wild pitch, RBI double by Teich, two-run double by Gaudette and an RBI single by Small to make the score 9-3. 

The Millers were at it again just one inning later when Gaudette hit a bases loaded single to bring one run across the plate, Brayden Ehnert hit a two-run single and Small hit a two-run double to make the score 14-3. Zach Hocking brought the scoring to an end later in the inning on an RBI double to end the game by a score of 15-3.
