Ottertail Fire Department receives $50,000 from Ottertail Lions

A sizable donation from the Ottertail Lions Club will have a major impact on the Ottertail Fire Department.
During its regularly scheduled meeting last week, the Ottertail City Council heard that the Ottertail Lions Club has donated $50,000 to the Ottertail Fire Department to assist in the purchase of new fire equipment gear.
The donation came as part of a brief meeting by the city council on Thursday night.
In other news
• Approved a final resolution with MnDOT for funding through the LRIP program for Tyler Wohler’s Trail south of Ottertail. The resolution was the final funding resolution that needed to be in place to start construction. The goal is to start constructing the expansive trail, which goes from near the fishing pier south of town to the heart of Ottertail along Highway 78. Much of the funding for the trail came from state grants and private donations.
• Heard that paving of Wallenberg Drive was recently completed. The project came at the request of property owners along Wallenberg Drive who requested to have the gravel road paved. Ottertail Mayor Ron Grobeck said the project is a great example of democracy at work as the project was requested by property owners in the area who also approved paying for a lion-share of the project with the blessing of the city council.
• Discussed a continued joint interest between representatives from Habitat for Humanity and the City of Ottertail to eventually construct a Habitat for Humanity House in the Arvilla development.
• Approved a $1,250 bid from Ottertail Aggregate to repair a wash out along Lueders Drive in Ottertail.
