The City of Deer Creek will once again be searching for a new city clerk/treasurer.
Just weeks after officially taking over for former city clerk/treasurer Tom Parish, who retired earlier this summer, Bill Connolly resigned his position as Deer Creek Clerk/Treasurer. Connolly’s last day will be on July 31. His resignation became official during last Monday’s city council meeting in Deer Creek.
“I just have too many irons in the fire. I am not doing any service to anybody,” said Connolly, who added he recently sold his house and is looking for a new place to live.
Connolly added that since his wife passed away he has been trying to keep himself busy, which was one of the reasons he applied for the job in Deer Creek in the first place. However, he said he has found himself to be too busy and is in need of cutting back from some of his responsibilities.
“Just too many things are happening right now all at once,” he said.
Since a number of local communities have just a part-time clerk/treasurer, Utility manager Dan Kovar suggested the city council inquire with neighboring communities to see if anyone was looking for additional work in Deer Creek. Sharing of a clerk/treasurer could result in both communities saving some money, while offering more hours to the right person.
The city council said it will weigh its options for filling the position moving forward.
