Four letter winners will lead the charge for the New York Mills cross country team this fall. The Eagles will be led by Elijah Geiser, Maggy Weller, Dawson Seelhammer and Austin Geiser as they look to fill the holes left by three hardworking seniors who graduated last year in Katherin Garcia, Morgyn O’Dea and Jeron Witt.

Co-head coach Greg Esala said there are a number of non-letter winners who could make an impact at the varsity level this year including Audrey Weller and Jacob Thorsrud.

Heading into the season, Esala said the Eagles are focused on improving at the meets and working hard in practice every day.

“To have all of our runners realize what they are capable of and continue their strong efforts as they improve,” said Esala of the team goals this year.

Among the favorites in the conference and the section will be Wadena-Deer Creek, United North Central and Otter Tail Central.

Esala said both himself and co-head coach Heidi Dresser “are proud of the efforts our athletes put forth at our practices. We also have junior high runners Loren Underdahl, Gavin Thorsrud and Bailey Doll on the team this year. They are working hard and will all see success.”

The Eagles will host a cross country meet on Thursday at Sonnenberg Farms north of town. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
