As a continuation of the recent Welcoming Communities Cohort and part of a region-wide Welcoming Week 2024 initiative, a Welcoming Week Street Fair will be held on Main Avenue of New York Mills on Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 4-7 p.m. This free event is sponsored by NYM Forward and is intended to bring together both newcomers to the community, as well as long-time residents to celebrate and learn more about all that the community has to offer.

A variety of booths, including NYM Forward, Otter Cove, NY Mills Fire Department, NY Mills Police Department, Otter Tail County, OTC Highway Department, NY Mills Regional Cultural Center, NY Mills Public School and the NY Mills Public Library will be on site to share their impact and resources to the community.

Otter Cove will be providing interactive play with their Children’s Museum new ON-THE-GO kids activities, as well as free ice cream thanks to Mills Country Market and also West Central Initiative’s grant funding.

As Main Avenue will be the location of the event, the NY Mills Cultural Center, NY Mills Library and the Continental Divide Brew Pub will all be open for their respective services and products.

“The NYM Welcoming Week Street Fair provides a great opportunity to learn more about what businesses and organizations are doing to help make New York Mills a place for people of all backgrounds to feel included and find a place to belong,” reads the Cultural Center’s website. “It will be family-friendly and fun, filled with food, games, activities, etc. Whether you’re new to the area or have been here for years, this event is a great way to connect with others and feel even more a part of our welcoming community. Come out, meet your neighbors, and explore the many ways we can all contribute to making New York Mills a wonderful place to live!”

The street fair is open to everyone and is family friendly with activities for all ages, food available at the Continental Divide, and many people to talk to with varying experiences around NY Mills.

This is an opportunity for those new to town, or even those well-acquainted with the community to listen, learn more, and visit with community members from all different walks of life.
