The New York Mills Eagles fell to 1-2 on the season with a 22-0 loss to Parkers Prairie on Friday night. The Eagles were shut out for the second time this season after falling to Ada-Borup West by a score of 14-0 in the regular season opener.

“Once again we stalled on offense,” said head coach Matt Radniecki.”We need to get going and be able to sustain drives. We are 0-8 in the red zone this year and that has to get better fast.”

The Eagles held a high powered Panthers offense off the scoreboard in the first quarter, before Parkers Prairie jumped on the scoreboard with a two-yard run in the second quarter. The two-point conversion was good to leave the score at 8-0 at halftime.

In the second half the Panthers picked up a pair of long touchdowns, the first coming on a 58-yard run with a two-point conversion in the third quarter, before the Panthers connected on a 39-yard pass to make the score 22-0 in the fourth quarter. The Panthers also missed a 38-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to leave the score at 22-0.

The 22 points was the fewest the Panthers scored so far this season.

“Our defense played well, but just gave up a few big plays, which Parkers does well with their explosiveness,” said Radniecki. “Boesl is as good of a player as there is and he showed it again with his speed and ability to break tackles. Our team kept battling and didn’t give up and we need to be ready to play Friday against a much better Walker team this week. This is a big section and district game for us.”

Walker-Hackensack-Akeley comes into Friday’s game with a record of 0-3 overall after falling to Red Lake County 40-0, Parkers Prairie 36-6 and Staples-Motley 40-0 this past week.

The Wolves come into Friday’s game averaging 2 points per game on offense, while giving up 38.7 points per game on defense.

The Eagles are 1-2 overall and average 6.3 points per game on offense, while giving up just 14 points per game on defense.

Friday’s game will get underway at 7 p.m. in NY Mills.

In addition to the varsity team, the Eagles JV team picked up a nice 34-14 win over Pine River-Backus. Radniecki aid the team played well in their first action of the season and he was very happy with the outcome.
