The new Cultural Center exihibit entitled “Women Create” is now on display in New York Mills and features the work of three local artists.

The women in this show are Linda Beilke from Frazee, Linda Sheryak from Moorhead and Donna Chalimonczyk from Moorhead, Minn. These three women are all members of the Cormorant Art League and each have their own unique style and interpretation of the world around them.

Linda Beilke works two-dimensionally in watercolor, acrylic, ink, graphite, and mixed media, from realism to non-objective imagery. Beilke’s style of allowing the ink or graphite drawing to be visible as the foundation of her art has become her distinctive look.

Linda Sheryak said she has always been an artist, creating drawings from a young age.  She later started painting with acrylics and helped paint backdrops for high school plays for many years. Currently, along with painting, Sheryak also creates jewelry and small sculptures.

Donna Chalimonczyk paints both with watercolors and acrylics.

“The wonderful part about painting is watching a painting emerge from the paint and water dropped on paper. It is truly an exciting experience,” she said.

Her paintings vary in style and subjects, from realistic to abstract.

The three women artists in this gallery show each have their own unique style that will engage and delight all who visit the NY Mills Regional Cultural Center. The paintings and sculptures in “Women Create” will be for sale and visitors will be certain to find a unique piece of art to take home.

A Gallery Reception will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12,  from 1-3 p.m. The artists will be on hand to meet and greet visitors and discuss their work.  An artists’ talk will begin at 2 p.m. The reception is free to attend and open to all. Refreshments will be available.

The NY Mills Regional Cultural Center Gallery is always free to see and open to the public. Gallery hours are Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Private viewings can be arranged anytime by calling Cheryl Bannes at 385-3339 or emailing cheryl@kulcher.org.

This activity is made possible in part by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
