The New York Mills Eagles dropped their second straight road game to close out their regular season on Wednesday night. This time around the Eagles fell to Pillager, a Class AA school, by a score of 43-0.

The Huskies took a 13-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. They added 14 more points in the second quarter to take a 27-0 at halftime, before adding a touchdown and two-point conversion in both the third and fourth quarters to come away with the win.

Head coach Matt Radniecki said the Huskies are a talented team as the Eagles struggled to get in a rhythm offensively throughout the game.

“They are a very good and talented football team and their quarterback #10 is the real deal,” said Radniecki. “The game was filled with turnovers by both sides and they had a pick six to start the game for Pillager. Our kids worked hard and battled, but they were just to good of a team and we never got into any kind of rhythm.”

The Eagles, who finished the regular season with a record of 3-5 overall, will travel to third seeded Parkers Prairie on Tuesday night for the opening round of the Section 6A tournament. The Panthers come into the game with a record of 5-3 overall, but as a whole the section is wide open, as the highest rated team in the QRF is top seeded West Central at 13 and a record of 6-2. In fact, the Eagles defeated second seeded Breckenridge 14-12 earlier this season.

“Our section is not overall strong and quite a few teams have a chance to make a run in the playoffs,” said Radniecki. “I am proud that we battled and as always thanks to our loyal fans for your support no matter what.”

In their previous match up, the Panthers defeated the Eagles 22-0 on September 13.

The winner of Tuesday’s game will take on either second seeded Breckenridge or seventh seeded Lake Park-Audubon on Saturday at the high seed. Last season the Eagles entered the playoffs as the sixth seed with a record of 2-6, before picking up a pair of upset wins on the road in the section tournament and advancing to the Section 6A championship game where they were defeated by Parkers Prairie in the FargoDome by a score of 26-6.
