0Lee Rogness, a dedicated public servant and Otter Tail County Commissioner since 2009, has served the Fergus Falls area during his 16-year tenure. An advocate for economic and community development, Rogness spearheaded many initiatives such as the Big Build rebate program, enhanced workforce opportunities, expanded broadband access, addressed childcare needs, and improved county residents’ quality of life.
“Commissioner Rogness’s leadership will shape Otter Tail County for future generations,” said Otter Tail County Administrator Nicole Hansen. “Not only has he been committed to improving the quality of life within our community through multiple initiatives, but he also does so through his support and recognition of the dedication and expertise of county employees.”
Rogness was instrumental in securing funding for essential infrastructure projects, including the half-cent sales tax for roads and bridges, which generates over five million dollars annually to maintain and improve transportation networks. His commitment to historic preservation is evident in his work to renovate the county courthouse and preserve Phelps Mill.
“One of Commissioner Rogness’s strong leadership skills is to not only look at the present-day effects of a decision he is considering for Otter Tail County and its residents but also to consider the possible effects of this decision 10 to 20 years down the road,” said former Public Works Director Rick West. “In his decision-making process, he always looked forward to providing the best possible future for Otter Tail County.”
Collaborating across county lines, he advanced projects like the Prairie Lakes Municipal Solid Waste Authority and public health initiatives. His legacy of service, community-focused leadership, and achievements will continue to positively impact the county for years to come.
“Rogness’s contributions will continue to resonate into the future. His leadership and commitment to progress have left a legacy. He will be remembered not only for his dedicated work but also for his heartfelt care for those whom he served. He has made a difference in Otter Tail County and in the lives of many,” said Commissioner Kurt Mortenson.
Rogness has expressed confidence in the county’s future, acknowledging county employees and the administration’s strong leadership and commitment.
“I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve the residents of Otter Tail County and enjoyed such great support.” Adding, “Despite its many challenges, Otter Tail County is on the right track in remaining a good place to live and work,” said Rogness.
Rogness’s last day of service will be December 17 at the final Board of County Commissioners meeting of 2024. The public is invited to attend a celebration honoring Commissioner Rogness on December 17 from 2:30-4:30 p.m., at the Government Services Center at 500 West Fir Avenue in Fergus Falls.
