New York Mills School recently announced this year’s Triple A Award winners as Ayla Olson and Isaac Kawlewski. This award goes to students engaged in the areas of academics, arts and athletics in their senior year of high school. Students must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and are nominated by faculty members.

Both award winners will have their achievement recognized at the spring scholarship ceremony and also have the possibility to continue on to qualify as a region finalist and be invited to a recognition banquet in March where Minnesota State High School League officials will announce the four statewide Triple A Award winners. Two statewide winners will receive a four-year $1,000 scholarship.

Kawlewski, the son of Connie and Ernie Kawlewski, said that he was shocked and surprised when he heard the news that he had received the award. Being involved in football, baseball, and band, he said that he appreciates the opportunity to be a representative from NY Mills High School throughout his activities.

“Just being able to represent the school,” he said.

“Representing NY Mills,” agreed Olson, daughter of Tammy and Brian Olson. She said that she was “honored” when she learned that she had received the award.

Olson has been involved in volleyball, basketball, softball, National Honor Society, band, and took as many art classes as she could. She said that she has enjoyed the supportive community the NY Mills has to offer and likes to be involved with all of her activities as the school.

Both students are looking forward to enjoying the rest of their senior year.

“Just being around my friends and the people here,” said Kawlewski,” and baseball season.”

“Being with my friends,” agreed Olson, “and probably prom.”
