The New York Mills Eagles wrapped up the 2024 portion of their schedule at the 38-team Jackhammer Invitational in Pequot Lakes from December 20-21.
None of the wrestlers placed in the large tournament, but several Eagles advanced to either the quarterfinals of the championship bracket or to the fourth round of the consolation bracket.
Blake Unger advanced to the quarterfinals of the 172 lbs. tournament after picking up a pair of pins in the opening round of the tournament. He fell to Tiegan Detloff of Perham by a tech fall in the quarterfinals and fell to Jonah Jensen of Eagen by a medical forfeit in the fourth round of the consolation bracket to end his tournament.
Grady Roberts also advanced to the fourth round of the consolation bracket at 285 lbs. after securing three decisions in the tournament, while falling to Aidan Ford of Centennial in the consolation bracket by a pin to end his tournament.
Austin Geiser picked up a major decision in the opening round of the tournament, before falling in the second round of the championship bracket to Mitchel Blonigen of Paynesville by a 5-4 decision. In the consolation bracket, Geiser secured back-to-back second period pins, before falling to Carsen Ziese of Perham by a 9-4 decision to end his 160 lbs. tournament.
NY Mills will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 2 when they compete in a triangular against Barnesville and Walk-Hackensack-Akeley in Barnesville.
