Minnesota state parks and trails will host candlelight events across the state this winter, including one at Glendalough State Park on Saturday, Feb. 8. Drop by any time between 6-8:30 p.m. for walking as stars twinkle overhead and candles flicker in the snow.

“Winter candlelight events are a magical way to experience Minnesota’s state parks and trails,” said Ann Pierce, director of Parks and Trails at the Minnesota DNR. “There’s something truly special about walking a snowy trail under the glow of candlelight, where the quiet of the night and the sparkle of the snow create a peaceful escape. It’s a chance to slow down, connect with nature, spend time with friends and family and find beauty in the stillness of winter.”

The 1-mile trail starts at the Lodge and Dining Hall and is suitable for beginner-level hikers of all ages. The evening wraps up with a cup of hot cider near a crackling bonfire.

A vehicle permit is required to enter Minnesota state parks and recreation areas. The DNR recommends buying permits in advance at the state park vehicle permit website (mndnr.gov/permit).

The cost is $7 per day, or $35 for a year-round permit.

In the event of severe weather, call (218) 261-6900 for updates or check alerts and notices on the park website at mndnr.gov/Glendalough.

Other candlelight events will take place throughout the state in January and February, offering a variety of terrain and scenery. For the complete schedule—including dates, times and other details—visit the candlelight events webpage (www.mndnr.gov/candlelight).
