An enchanting winter tradition

Nestled in the heart of Minnesota, Maplewood State Park is a cherished winter destination known for its picturesque landscapes and serene setting. One of the most anticipated events is the Candlelight Trek, a magical experience for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and abilities.

Take in winter’s splendor by walking or skiing the approximately one-mile trail around Cataract Lake. As the sun sets, the trail is illuminated by dozens of flickering lanterns, creating a warm and inviting, magical ambiance.

Ski, walk, snowshoe, or just chat around the campfire with friends; enjoy hot chili, s’mores, bars, and hot drinks.

The Trek is Saturday, February 22, at Maplewood State Park.

Chili will be ready by 5 p.m., and lanterns will be lit from 6-8 p.m. Drop by any time during the event and enjoy the trail at your own pace.

The event is free; however, skiers over 16 need a ski pass ($10 daily, $25 annual). All vehicles must have a current Minnesota State Park permit which can be purchased online at https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/permit.html. The park entrance is at 39721 Park Entrance Road, Pelican Rapids, MN 56572.
