Township voters head to the polls in OT County

Voters from across the region turned out to vote at the local township elections during Minnesota Township Day last Tuesday. Though many races were uncontested, some townships saw an uptick in numbers with multiple candidates.
In Blowers Township, Larry Berg was re-elected as a supervisor for a three-year term. He received 17 votes. Write-in votes for Dan Huwe and LuAnn Siltala were also made for this position. Dan Huwe was re-elected as treasurer for a two-year term with 19 votes. Total voter turnout was 19 people.
In Bluffton Township, Henry Soenneker was re-elected as supervisor. Mary Roggenkamp was re-elected treasurer. Total voter turnout was high at 30 voters as the supervisor position was contested.
In Compton Township, Marlin Martin was re-elected as supervisor and Miriam Decock was re-elected as treasurer. Total voter turnout was 11 people.
In Deer Creek Township, Cheri Kopveiler was re-elected for a two-year term as treasurer and William Grieger for a three-year term as supervisor. A total of eight voters turned out to the polls.
In Homestead Township, Steve Boehne was elected supervisor and Corrine Meech was elected treasurer. Total voter turnout was high at 16 voters.
In Leaf Lake Township, Paul Friedrich was re-elected as supervisor for a three-year term. Matt Thorson was re-elected as treasurer for a two-year term. Both candidates received 12 votes, which is on the low side for usual voter turnout in the township.
In Newton Township, annual elections are held in November. Rick Ehnert was elected as supervisor and the clerk and treasurer positions are now appointed positions. Kayla Ellenson was appointed clerk and Lora Rogers is currently finishing her term as elected treasurer before an appointment will be made. These position began in January.
In Otto Township, Conrad Mack received 20 votes and was re-elected for a two-year term as Treasurer. Derek Geiser was also re-elected for a three-year term as supervisor, receiving 19 votes. Total voter turnout was 20.
In Pine Lake Township, Ken Guck was re-elected for a two-year treasurer term and Pete Snortum was re-elected to a three-year supervisor term. A total of 16 voters turned out for the election, which was fairly low for the township.
While several townships reported an average turnout, across the board, voting totals were down this year from the past several years.
