Inclement weather forced last year’s Easter Egg Hunt indoors in New York Mills. This year approximately 2,000 eggs will be hidden at Smith Park.

The New York Mills Civic & Commerce Association will be hosting their annual Easter Egg Hunt this Saturday, April 19 with registration at 9:30 a.m. and the hunt at 10 a.m.
Families with children of infant age to grade six are invited to participate. Three age groups; Infant-Preschool, Kindergarten-Grade 2, Grade 3-6, will be split into different locations around the egg hunt grounds to find their special treats. Participants are asked to bring their own Easter basket.
While the location for the egg hunt is still up in the air due to the early April snowstorm and recent rainfall, the egg hunt is primarily planned for Smith Park, however, if the park is not dry enough for this event, it will be moved to the NY Mills School. Further updates can be found on the Civic & Commerce’s Facebook page.
“We usually have 150 to 200 kids,” said organizer Julie Roberts, president of the Civic & Commerce Association. “Last year we did 4,200 eggs. First the kids sign up and register, then the hunt starts promptly at 10 a.m.”
Roberts said this event has been an annual affair for a number of years. Its mission is to give back to the community for all of its support throughout the year.
“It’s a spotlight for the Civic & Commerce,” said Roberts. “It’s one of the community events, just one of the giving back events.”
This year, the egg hunt is being sponsored by Midco, which invested heavily in fiber service to homes and businesses in town last year.
“They reached out to see if they could sponsor it this year,” said Roberts. “So I gladly accepted.”
The East Otter Tail Darkhouse Association and the NY Mills National Honor Society students are also contributing to the event.
Along with an Easter bunny for photo opportunities, treats and prizes, this Egg Hunt is gearing up to be a fun time for families and young children to enjoy their Saturday morning.
“I’m looking forward to the joy on the kids’ faces,” said Roberts. “Just how much fun they have!”
In addition to the egg hunt in NY Mills, Bluffton Hometown Days will host an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the city park. Over 2,000 eggs will be hidden for children ages 10 and under.
The Easter Bunny will also be making an appearance in Bluffton as part of the festivities.
