The New York Mills Eagles opened their season with four wins in six games, including a pair of wins over Otter Tail Central and a split over Menahga in the Park Region Conference.

The Eagles will host Wadena-Deer Creek in a doubleheader on Tuesday night in their lone action of the week.
April 7
Ayla Olson came just a single away from hitting for the cycle as the NY Mills senior went 4-5 with a pair of doubles, a triple and a home run to go along with seven RBI’s in the Eagles’ regular season opener on April 7. Bella Huwe finished with a perfect 4-4 night at the plate as the Eagles defeated Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal by a score of 20-3.
NY Mills got on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning when Chloe Costin hit an RBI single to score one run, before scoring two more runs in the second inning when Olson hit a triple and Huwe hit a single down the left field line to each score one run. NY Mills added five runs in the third and fourth inning, as well as seven runs in the fifth inning to come away with the win.
Rosemary Laudenbach went 3-5 in the win with a pair of runs scored, and picked up the win on the mound as she surrendered zero hits and no runs over 3 1/3 innings. She also struck out four hitters and walked just one batter.

April 10
Parkers Prairie scored a pair of runs in the first inning, but pulled away after NY Mills took a brief 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning thanks to a big five run top of the sixth to come away with a 9-5 win on April 10.
Ayla Olson led the way offensively for the Eagles as she went 3-4 at the plate with a pair of RBI’s and a double. Abby Berndt went 2-4 at the plate and hit a triple to go along with an RBI in the loss.
Rosemary Laudenbach took the loss on the mound as allowed 12 hits, nine runs five of which were earned over 6 2/3 innings. She struck out four hitters and walked two.
April 15
NY Mills had a day at the plate on Tuesday night as they combined for 46 runs in a doubleheader against Otter Tail Central. The Eagles defeated the Bulldogs by scores of 17-2 and 29-12 to improve to 3-1 on the season.
In the opening game of the night, Taya Koljonen put the Eagles on the scoreboard as she hit into a fielder’s choice that brought two runs across the plate. The Eagles scored six runs on five hits in the bottom of the second inning when Ayla Olson doubled to score one run, while an error brought two more runs across the plate. Chloe Costin hit into a fielder’s choice to score another run, Koljonen hit an RBI single and Aurora Jabas was hit by a pitch to bring another run across the plate. The Eagles scored eight more runs in the third inning to take a 17-2 lead, before OTC scored a pair of runs int he top of the fourth inning to end the game.
The Eagles needed just nine hits to score 17 runs thanks to eight walks.
Ayla Olson and Bella Huwe each collected two hits in the win.
Rosemary Laudenbach collected the win on the mound as she gave up just three hits and no earned runs over four innings. She struck out two hitters.
In the second game of the night, Abby Berndt collected three hits, three RBI’s and scored four runs, all-while starting the game on the mound for NY Mills as it defeated OTC by a score of 29-12. The Eagles collected 18 hits in the win as Bella Huwe had a big game from the plate as she went 4-5 with five RBI’s, including a double in the win.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning when Deserae Koljonen hit a two-run double, while another run scored on an error. After OTC scored three runs of their own in the bottom half of the first inning the Eagles bats came alive as they scored five runs in the second inning, three in the third inning, 11 in the fourth inning and seven more in the fifth inning to come away with the commanding win.
Berndt started the game on the mound for the Eagles and gave up seven hits, 12 runs, but just two earned, over four innings. Laudenbach picked up the win in relief by pitching a scoreless inning and giving up no hits or runs.

Rosemary Laudenbach and Joie Koll gave up a combined three earned runs and 14 hits in a pitcher’s duel from the opening pitch of the game.
Fortunately for the Eagles, a fielder’s choice by Chloe Costin the bottom of the first inning and an RBI single by Deserae Koljonen in the bottom of the third inning gave NY Mills a 2-0 lead and was just enough to hold on to a 2-1 over the Menahga Braves on Thursday morning.
Laudenbach earned the win for the Eagles as she went all seven innings and struck out five hitters. She gave up seven hits and just one earned run in the top of the sixth inning. Bella Huwe hit a pair of doubles and Koljonen finished with two hits to lead the way offensively for NY Mills.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard first inning as Huwe hit an RBI double down the right field line and Kalyn Balbach hit a fielder’s choice to put NY Mills up 2-0.
Unfortunately, Menahga scored four runs in the first, two in the second and four more runs in the fourth inning to come away with the win.
Ayla Olson, Huwe and Shauna Geiser each collected two hits in the loss for NY Mills.
