West Central Initiative (WCI) invites current and aspiring entrepreneurs with a passion for positive change to apply for the 2026-2027 Initiators Fellowship. The two-year program provides a suite of support for emerging entrepreneurs in Greater Minnesota whose business idea includes a socially beneficial outcome.

Individuals who reside and operate in the 53 counties and six Native Nations served by West Central Initiative, Initiative Foundation, Northwest Minnesota Foundation, and Southwest Initiative Foundation are eligible to apply. The application is open May 1 to June 16.

The Initiators Fellowship provides the next generation of rural leaders with the tools and support needed to launch or grow ventures that strengthen communities. Fellows receive a $30,000 annual stipend for two years, along with access to leadership training, mentorship, and a statewide network of changemakers committed to rural vitality.

“If you’re committed to revitalizing Greater Minnesota with a business whose mission goes deep to address social or environmental issues, then this is an opportunity to accelerate your growth and the success of your venture,” said Christine Metzo, Initiators Fellowship program manager.

Fellows benefit from a deeply connected community of support that extends well beyond the two-year term. Through training, peer learning, and regional partnerships, the fellowship equips participants to lead with purpose and build long-lasting impact.
