The New York Mills Eagles improved to 8-4 overall with a pair of sweeps over Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale and Pillager last week.

After defeating the Huskies by scores of 5-2 and 8-2, the Eagles went on to defeat the Raiders 17-1 and 9-3.

The Eagles once again have a busy week on tap as the end of the regular season is in sight. The Eagles hosted Frazee on Monday in non-conference action, before hosting Sebeka on Tuesday in a Park Region Conference doubleheader. 

On Thursday the Eagles will travel to Parkers Prairie to wrap up their conference slate of games, before heading to Jackson for the annual Jackson County Central tournament on Saturday.

Currently the Eagles are 8-4 overall and 7-4 in the conference. Menahga and Wadena-Deer Creek are leading the conference with records of 8-2 overall and Parkers Prairie is in second place at 7-3. 

Tuesday

Rosemary Laudenbach gave up just four hits and two earned runs, while striking out seven hitters as the Eagles defeated the Pillager Huskies by a score of 5-2 on Tuesday. The Eagles opened the scoring in the top of the first inning thanks to a pair of errors by the Huskies. 

The Eagles added two more runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead, before Pillager scored a pair in the bottom of the sixth inning. 

Ayla Olson led the way offensively with a pair of hits, while Shauna Geiser collected a pair of RBIs in the win.

In the second game of the night, Chloe Costin gave up just two hits and two earned runs over 6 2/3 innings to collect an 8-2 win over the Huskies. Costin did walk eight hitters and Rosemary Laudenbach came in to get the final out of the game. 

The Eagles opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Deserae Koljonen doubled to score two runs and would later score after tagging up at third base to make the score 3-0.

NY Mills added another run in the third inning and four more in the fifth inning to come away with the win. Pillager got on the scoreboard for the first time in the top of the seventh inning.

Ayla Olson once again led the way offensively with three hits and a pair of runs, while Bella Huwe and Koljonen each collected two hits each in the win.

Friday

NY Mills outscored Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 26-4 in a sweep of the Raiders on Friday night.

In the opening game of the night, NY Mills scored seven runs in both the first and second inning on their way to a 17-1 win over the Raiders. 

Aurora Jabas singled to score a pair of runs in the first inning, while the Eagles made the most of four BHV errors and 11 team walks to push a majority of their runs across home plate. 

In the bottom of the second inning, Chloe Costin hit an RBI single, before Rosemary Laudenbach and Kalyn Balbach each walked to bring a run across the plate. Bella Huwe was hit by a pitch to score another run and the Eagles scored three more runs on errors to make the score 14-0 after the second inning.

Laudenbach gave up just one hit and one run in the 17-1 win. She also struck out four hitters and didn’t walk a batter to pick up the win. 

Offensively the Eagles collected just five hits with Huwe, Jabas, Abby Berndt, Chloe Costin and Laudenbach each picking up one hit. 

In the nightcap, Deserae Koljonen put the Eagles on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning on a two-run single. Another run crossed the plate later in the inning to make the score 3-0. After BHV scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the second, Ayla Olson gave the Eagles a bit of breathing room as she hit a three-run home run over the center field fence to make the score 6-2. The Eagles added two more runs in the sixth inning and one run in the fourth inning to come away with the win.

Chloe Costin picked up the win in the circle as she went four innings and gave up five hits and three runs of which two were earned and struck out four hitters. Abby Berndt pitched the final three innings and gave up two hits and struck out two batters.

Olson led the way offensively with two hits and three RBIs, while Bella Huwe went 2-3 in the win.
