A fire broke out in the early hours of Friday, May 2 southeast of New York Mills. The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call at approximately 1:28 a.m. with a report of a structure fire in Newton Township at 36435 570th Street.
Otter Tail County deputies as well as members from the New York Mills, Bluffton, and Deer Creek Fire Departments responded to the fire at Midwest Meat, Tender Loving Tallow, and BK Builders. The large building which housed the businesses was engulfed in flames and all appeared to be a total loss. The firemen battled the blaze and fortunately no injuries were sustained by any party.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently being investigated by the Minnesota State Fire Marshall’s Office and the Otter Tail Country Sheriff.
In a Facebook post, the trio of businesses, owned and operated by the Brandon Nelson family, thanked the local sheriff’s department and fire departments for their response and community members for their support. According to the Facebook post, the family plans to rebuild the respective businesses.
