The New York Mills Millers opened its season with a pair of lopsided wins over the Vergas Loons on Saturday afternoon.
The Millers opened the doubleheader with a 15-3 win over the Loons, before defeating Vergas 5-1 in the nightcap.
The Millers wasted little time jumping all over the Loons in the opener as they scored 10 runs in the top of the first inning, which included seven runs that crossed the plate on a two out rally.
After loading up the bases with one out, Brayden Ehnert put the Millers on the scoreboard with a two-run single. After Bode Roberts was hit by a pitch to load the bases once again, Adam Patron forced a bases loaded walk to make the score 3-0. Four more runs came across the plate on a pair of two out errors, before Derin Gaudette scored on a wild pitch, Logan Small hit a one-run double and would later score on a passed ball to make the score 10-0.
The Millers added one run in the second and four more in the sixth inning to end the game by a score of 15-3 after six innings.
Brayden Ehnert led the way offensively with three hits, three runs scored and four RBIs, while Braxton Ehnert finished with two hits and three runs scored.
Austin Maneval picked up the win on the mound as he gave up just two hits and no runs, while striking out five hitters over three innings. Teagan Lausten gave up four hits and a pair of runs, while striking out six hitters over three innings.
In the second game of the night, Hunter Holtti gave up just one hit, one unearned run and struck out 12 hitters over seven innings as the Millers defeated the Loons by a score of 5-1. The lone hit came with one out in the top of the seventh inning, but the game quickly came to an end when the Millers turned a double play to end the game.
NY Mills took an early 2-0 lead when Bode Roberts and Brayden Ehnert earned back-to-back bases loaded walks to take a 2-0 lead.
The Millers put the game out of reach for good in the bottom of the fifth inning when Teagan Lausten hit a bases clearing double to bring three runs across the plate and make the score 5-1.
Braxton Ehnert led the way offensively with a pair of hits and a run scored, while Lausten picked up one hit and three RBIs in the win.
