The New York Mills Eagles won the sub section championship and have advanced to the winners bracket championship game against second ranked and defending section champions Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley after picking up three wins last week.
The second seeded Eagles opened the sub section tournament with a 13-0 win over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, before defeating third seeded Parkers Prairie 4-3 and fifth seeded Browerville 2-1 in the sub section championship game.
With the wins the Eagles will take on Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley on Tuesday in Browerville. The Wolverines are 21-0 on the season and ranked second in the state.
The section tournament will continue on Thursday in Browerville when the championship bracket winner and elimination bracket winner will square off for the right to advance to state.
The Eagles are currently 16-7 on the season and are ranked 19th in the QRF rankings.
In their final game of the regular season, Ayla Olson homered twice and Chloe Costin hit another home run as the Eagles defeated Browerville 8-5 on May 14.
Olson’s home runs came as part of a four-run top of the first inning and a one-run top of the sixth inning that put NY Mills in front 7-2. Browerville made a game of it late by scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but NY Mills held on for an 8-5 win.
Deserae Koljonen and Costin both finished with three hits in the win. Costin led the way with four RBIs and a run scored, while Koljonen chipped in with two doubles in the win. Olson finished with two solo home runs.
Rosemary Laudenbach picked up the win in the circle as she went seven innings and gave up six hits, five runs of which two were earned, while walking two batters and striking out three.
