Cody Truax has the unique ability to transform a rundown vehicle that has seen its better days into a pristine piece of heaven that looks like it just came off the assembly line. In many ways he is like an artist and a dirty vehicle is his canvas that in a few short hours will be given a fresh shine and a new car feel so many vehicle owners have given up hope to realize again.

After spending his life in the car industry, Truax recently opened Truax Detailing in Deer Creek. His new business is a familiar location for vehicle owners in the region as it is located in the former home of Truax Auto Sales that his parents owned for a number of years and got Cody started in the auto industry.

The used car lot closed a few years ago, but Truax continued to detail vehicles at Mid State Auto Auction in New York Mills, before he opted to go back on his own and start Truax Detailing in Deer Creek.

“I decided I wanted to go back on my own and do this again,” said Truax. 

After opening his detailing business at the former Truax Auto Sales lot and building in Deer Creek at the end of January, business has remained steady and quickly grown with customers primarily coming from the Deer Creek, Henning, Clitherall, Wadena and Battle Lake areas. He is currently about 2 1/2 weeks booked out, but continues to take appointments for detailing as the summer season picks up in Otter Tail County area. 

“Word gets around fast if you do a good job,” said Truax of how quickly his business has grown. “I may not be the fastest, but I take my time to make sure it is done right.”

While every job is unique and a bit different, Truax will clean, steam and even do some minor paint touch ups if necessary. He is even able to do some minor headlight restoration to get rid of the foggy look that dim lights and diminishes the look of the exterior of the car.

One of his favorite parts of his job is the response he gets when people see their newly detailed vehicle for the first time. 

“After they are done, customers appreciate how good they are,” said Truax who added he grew up in the auto industry. “I just found enjoyment in cleaning them.”
