New York Mills EDA to seek additional quotes for grant writing

The New York Mills Economic Development Authority (EDA) met last Wednesday, May 21 to discuss the development within the city.

The EDA’s loan fund balance sits at $229,738.59 and all outstanding loans are current.

With no new business this month, the board first discussed a quote received from Creating Community Consulting. Karen Pifher, owner and operator, spoke to the EDA board in April about her services and what her company has accomplished over the past few years. The board was most interested in the grant writing program the company offers subscriptions for. They decided to seek out other local quotes and to ask about a demonstration of the program for interested businesses, as well as the EDA.

Julie Roberts informed the board that the City of NY Mills closed on two lots in Country View and have two more purchase agreements since that time. That leaves three lots left in that addition.

Roberts also provided an update for the South Point addition, where the NY Mills Lions Club has been working to clean up the walking trail and planting trees out there. They ordered shelters and benches for the trail that should arrive in June to be installed.

She also said that the South Point Apartments building currently houses 25 residents with continued applications being approved. Building manager, Marsha Vandermay, expects the building’s capacity to be half-full by the end of May.

Roberts is also working with Otter Tail County with their purchase agreement on the two lots south of the apartment building which will house a senior-living triplex.

An update on the Family Resource Center that will be coming to NY Mills was also given by Roberts. She mentioned that the city approved the lease agreement for the City Center building to be the home for the center. Renovations will be done to that section of the building from grant funding that Otter Tail County secured. There are not a lot of specifics about how this particular Resource Center will look.

Next month’s meeting will take place on Tuesday, June 17 at 8:30 a.m. in the City Hall Chambers and a brief brainstorming session for the EDA will take place after the monthly business meeting.
