Saturday

A pair of runs in the top of the first inning proved to be the difference in a 2-1 win over Deer Creek on Saturday afternoon.

Derin Gaudette led off the game with a walk, before Brayden Ehnert reached on an error to leave runners on second and third base with nobody out. Logan Small followed with a two-run double to make the score 2-0 in favor of the Millers.

Deer Creek was able to cut the lead to 2-2 in the bottom of the second inning when Lane Dilly hit a sacrifice fly to right field to allow Chase Nordlund to cross the plate.

From there it was a bit of a pitcher’s duel as neither team was able to mount much of an offensive attack as Jonah Johnson struck out nine hitters and gave up just two hits over seven innings for NY Mills to pick up the win.

Nolan Coyle gave up a pair of unearned runs and five hits, while striking out two hitters for the Shockers in a tough loss.

Runs were equally difficult to come by in the second game of the day as the lone run for either team came on a Skylar Mursu sacrifice fly to center field that allowed Johnson to cross the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Deer Creek’s Ashton Detloff and NY Mills’ DaShaun Robinson combined to give up just one unearned run and seven combined hits in the game. Robinson gave up just three hits, walked five batters and struck out 10 Deer Creek batters to pick up the win on the mound.
