0The New York Mills Library will be abuzz during the month of September with three more activities on tap. The three activities come on the heels of a nature print making workshop that was held on Tuesday, Sept. 16 from 4-7 p.m. at the library. The event was held in conjunction with the Main Ave. Street Fair.
On Saturday the library will be hosting a read-in rally to celebrate libraries. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., libraries from across the state will participate in the Great North Star Read Together where individuals are asked to drop in and read to show that Minnesota residents are library supporters. Whether it’s stopping by the library for five minutes or two hours, readers are encouraged to bring a book, grab a chair and help to shine a spotlight on the vital roles libraries play in a community.
The goal is to show that libraries are more than just buildings and have best seller books. They’re gathering spots, learning hubs for people, safe spaces and cornerstones for informed, thriving communities. The local event will be held at the NY Mills Public Library on Saturday.
Another event at the library will be a presentation by Michael Stalberger on Monday, Sept. 29 at 6:30 p.m. Stalberger, who is the director of property and environmental resources for Blue Earth County, has administered elections since 2016 and serves on the state-level, advisory, legislative, education and executive committees.
His presentation will help people learn how Minnesota’s election procedures are administered by county, city and township officials and rely on a statewide voter registration system to keep elections, safe, secure, accurate, open and transparent.
The final event of the month at the library will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 6:30 p.m. The event is entitled Otter Tail County on the Big Screen. The event will be presented by Missy Hermes, education coordinator for the Otter Tail County Historical Society.
Few people may know that Otter Tail County has been a proving ground for actors and filmmakers. From the silent screen to Disney Studios to red carpet premiers and more, Otter Tail County residents have been featured prominently in the film industry.
The night will highlight a number of these contributions to the film industry and provide plenty of interesting facts about Otter Tail County residents in the industry.
