Perham/NYM to wrap up regular season on Thursday

The Perham/New York Mills tennis team picked up three wins by an identical 6-1 score last week to improve to 17-4 overall. Following the three wins, the Yellowjackets are gearing up for the section tournament, which kicks off next week. They will wrap up the regular season on Thursday night when they travel to Wadena-Deer Creek to take on the Wolverines beginning at 4 p.m. 

The first round of the section tournament is set for Tuesday at the high seed. 

Tuesday

The Perham/NY Mills tennis team improved to 15-4 on the season with a commanding 6-1 win over Parkers Prairie on Tuesday night. 

The Yellowjackets won three of the four singles matches and swept the doubles to come away with the win. 

At first singles, Kaia Anderson swept Brooke Schilling 6-0, 6-0, while Aurora Jabas came away with a 6-2, 6-1 win at third singles over Cailin Jensen. At fourth singles, Lilliahna Klettke defeated Hattie Truax 6-3, 6-1 for the Yellowjackets’ third win in singles.

In doubles the duo of Bella Huwe and Lucy Wallgren swept their match at first doubles by a score of 6-0, 6-0. Kenzlee Rodewald and Miley Anderson won at second doubles by a score of 6-4, 6-2, while the third doubles team of Hazel Dykhoff and Lauren Gjerde completed the sweep at doubles with a 6-2, 6-3 win.

Thursday

After a slight rain delay the Perham/NY Mills tennis team swept a triangular against Detroit Lakes and Roseau by identical 6-1 scores on Thursday at home. The pair of wins improves the Yellowjackets to 17-4 on the season as they gear up for the section tournament, which will kick off next week. 

In their match against Detroit Lakes, the Yellowjackets swept the singles matches, dropping just six games between all four matches. Kaia Anderson at first singles and Lilliahna Klettke at fourth singles swept their matches 6-0, 6-0, while Aurora Jabas won by a 6-1, 6-1 score at third singles. 

Bella Huwe won a tough second singles match by a score of 6-1, 6-3 to complete the sweep.

In doubles, the first doubles team of Lucy Wallgren and Miley Anderson dropped their first set by a score of 6-1, before charging back with a 6-4, 10-5 win to win in three sets. 

At third doubles the pair of Hazel Dykhoff and Lauren Gjerde cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 to come away with the win. 

Perham/NY Mills changed their lineup a bit against the Roseau Rams but still came away with a 6-1 win. 

Anderson once again swept her way to a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles, while Jabas picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at third singles and Lilliahna Klettke picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win at fourth singles to give the Yellowjackets three wins in four singles matches.

Perham/NY Mills swept all three doubles matches with a pair of 6-1, 6-1 wins at first and third doubles, while the second doubles team secured a 6-4, 6-2 win to hand the Yellowjackets a 6-1 win.
