A 24-year-old man from New York Mills was struck and died as a result of injuries from an accident in the 37000 block of County Highway 67, just south of New York Mills on Wednesday evening. 

According to a report from the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, the sheriff’s office responded to a report of an adult walking on the roadway that was struck by a passing vehicle at approximately 8:08 p.m. The accident occurred in Otto Township just south of NY Mills.

A 42-year-old man, who has not been identified by the sheriff’s office, was the driver of a Dodge pick-up and stopped at the scene. He reportedly struck a 24-year-old adult male, who was also from NY Mills, and was located in the ditch unresponsive. The victim has also yet to be officially identified by the sheriff’s office. 

Life saving efforts were attempted by first responders, however, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, Perham Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, New York Mills Rescue, Astera Ambulance and Life Link assisted with the incident. 

The incident is currently under investigation and no charges related to the accident have been filed at this time.

Another fatal accident was reported at the intersection of County Highway 125 and Fort Thunder Road in Perham on Monday, Sept. 29.

According to a report from the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, the sheriff’s office received a call at approximately 2:45 p.m. of a motor vehicle crash just west of Perham. The crash involved a 2001 Kawasaki motorcycle driven by 65-year-old Robert Lee Stelzer of Detroit Lakes and a 2019 Toyota pickup operated by a 33-year-old man from Pelican Rapids.

According to the report, Stelzer was traveling westbound on Fort Thunder Road and failed to stop at the intersection controlled by a stop sign, before his motorcycle was struck by the driver of the second vehicle who was traveling on County Highway 125. 

The Otter Tail County Sheriffs Office, Perham Ambulance and Perham Fire Department responded to the scene. Life saving measures were administered by the original caller and responders, but the driver of the motorcycle was ultimately pronounced deceased.  The driver of the pickup truck was uninjured.   

The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
