Eagles drop a pair in Park Region Conference action

The New York Mills Eagles dropped three games last week, including a pair of games in the Park Region Conference last week.
After falling to one of the top teams in Section 6A in Parkers Prairie on Monday night, the Eagles dropped a 3-0 game to Henning on Tuesday and a 3-1 game to Menahga on Thursday night. The three losses increases NY Mills’ losing streak to 11 games as they look to close out their regular season on Tuesday night at home against conference-leading Wadena-Deer Creek.
The Section 6A playoffs will kick off next week with the Eagles, who are 4-18 overall and 0-6 in the conference, likely to hit the road in the opening round of the tournament.
Monday

Despite falling 3-0 to Parkers Prairie, the NY Mills Eagles came close to doing something few teams have been able to do so far this season—force the Panthers to a fourth game.
After falling 25-4 in the first set, the Eagles lost just 25-17 in the second game and fell just 25-22 in the third game in what turned out to be the closest set of the night. The Panthers are among the top teams in Section 6A and are currently 23-3 overall.
Ellyana Ruther led the way offensively for the Eagles as she finished with seven kills, while Annika Dunrud and Sawyer Anderson each finished the night with five kills.
Chloe Costin finished with 11 assists, while Gabi Vaden led the team with eight digs.

Tuesday
NY Mills made the trek south to a familiar foe on Tuesday night as the Eagles headed to Henning for a Park Region Conference match up against the Hornets.
Unfortunately, the Eagles had its losing streak reach 10 games on Tuesday night as the Hornets upended NY Mills 3-0.
The Eagles dropped the first game by a score of 25-16, before falling 25-17 in the second game. The Hornets were able to complete the sweep by defeating NY Mills 25-10 in the third and final game.
Gabi Vaden had a big game defensively for the Eagles as she finished with 20 digs, while Chloe Costin led the team with 10 assists.
Alivia Preuss led a balanced offensive attack with four kills, while Annika Dunrud and Ellyana Ruther each finished with three kills apiece.

Thursday
In search of their first conference win of the season, NY Mills hosted Menahga on Thursday night. Unfortunately, the Braves were able to narrowly come away with a 3-1 win.
After falling 25-17, 25-10 in the opening two sets of the night, NY Mills fought back with a 25-16 win in the third game to stay alive in the contest. Unfortunately, Menahga was able to outlast the Eagles as they came away with a 25-21 win in the fourth set to edge the Eagles 3-1. It was the 11th straight loss for the Eagles as they will look to knock off Park Region Conference first place Wadena-Der Creek on Tuesday in NY Mills to close out their conference schedule.
Annika Dunrud had a huge game from the floor for the Eagles as the senior finished with 17 kills to go along with nine digs. Alivia Preuss finished with eight kills, while Ellyana Ruther and Sawyer Anderson finished with five kills apiece. Chloe Costin finished with 19 assists, while Julie Seim chipped in with 14.
Defensively, Gabi Vaden finished with an astounding 38 digs, while Abigail Berndt finished with 19 digs and Seim finished with 11 to also reach double figures.
