Biker injured east of Dent

A county resident who lives northwest of Battle Lake has been scammed out of $700, as reported by county sheriff deputies on Oct. 13. The scam victim, believing a phone pitch that he won a truck and large amount of cash, gave the scammers numbers to Apple gift cards. Once those numbers are given out, the cash cannot be retrieved.

County residents are reminded that only scammers will tell you to buy a gift card such as Google Play or Apple Card and give them the numbers off the back of the card. No, matter what they say, that’s a scam.

No legitimate business or governmental agency will ever tell you to buy a gift card to pay them. 

Biker injured east of Dent

A GMC Sierra was traveling westbound on highway 108 when it collided with a bicycle also traveling westbound on highway 108, near the junction with 380th Avenue. The accident with injury took place just after 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct, 10.

The biker, 37-year-old Rob Lee Florin Brekke of Perham, was taken to Essentia Hospital in Fargo with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the GMC Sierra was not injured.

Assisting sheriff deputies at the scene of the accident were the Dent Fire Department, Perham Fire Department and Perham Police Department.
