The New York Mills Neon team took first place at the junior high knowledge bowl meet on Tuesday, Nov. 5 in Fergus Falls.

The New York Mills Junior High knowledge bowl teams wrapped up their second meet on Tuesday, Nov. 5 in Fergus Falls. There were 19 teams from Perham, Osakis, Rosholt, S.D., Frazee-Vergas, Lake Park-Audobon and Alexandria Christian.

NY Mills split 18 competitors into four teams. Two teams, New York Mills Navy and New York Mills Nest, were filled with seventh graders. These youngsters in their second meet had a great day with some or around doing well and others not scoring enough points to keep up with the other teams in their rooms. They tied for 14th place.

“They may not have placed the highest, but the experience they are getting will make next year’s run as eighth graders that much better. Keep trying and keep practicing your trivia to crack that top 10,” said coach Will Grieger.

NY Mills Nickel started the day in seventh place and had two average rounds and one phenomenal round putting up 15 correct responses. This allowed them to finish the day in sixth place, only four points from making it into the top five.

The last team, NY Mills Neon started the day in second place with a great written round. They held their own throughout the day, slipping to third place in one round. They saved everything for the last round of questions and put up a monstrous 13 points in the toughest room to take first place.

Eighth graders Wolfgang and Aiden said “we had the dream team, the math questions were the hardest part of the day. It felt like we knocked the social studies questions out of the park. That is what helped us in today’s win!”

Grieger said congratulations to NY Mills Neon and all are looking forward to the last meet on Tuesday, Nov. 25, in Fergus Falls.
