Gary Rue and Randy Sabien will be performing at the New York Mills Cultural Center on Thursday, Nov. 13. They will bring a mix of jazz, Western swing and original songwriting to the NY Mills area.

The New York Mills Regional Cultural Center’s 2025 Fall Performing Arts Series continues with an unforgettable evening of jazz, Western swing and original songwriting featuring Rue and Sabien on Thursday, Nov. 13, at 7:30 p.m.

Experience an electrifying performance by two of Minnesota’s most dynamic and seasoned musicians: Gary Rue and Randy Sabien. Together, this powerhouse duo delivers an energetic mix of jazz, Western swing, and singer-songwriter brilliance, blending masterful musicianship with witty storytelling and improvisational flair.

Gary Rue—guitarist, pianist, vocalist, and composer—has written songs recorded by artists such as Helen Reddy, Nick Lowe, and Prudence Johnson, and was inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame in 2010.

“…these [Gary Rue] songs are a clear cut above the usual…each one features at least one major-league moment, phrase or hook…,” wrote the Minneapolis Star Tribune

Randy Sabien, a virtuoso of violin, guitar, mandolin, piano, and vocals, is known for his inventive approach to jazz in the Stéphane Grappelli tradition, weaving blues and Western swing into his unique sound.

“Rather than simply embellish a tune, [Sabien] re-conceives it, building and developing intriguing new musical motifs along the way…his playing couldn’t help but bring a smile to virtually every face in the room,” wrote the Chicago Tribune

Expect a high-energy, improvisational performance filled with melodic surprises, sharp humor, and dazzling interplay between piano, guitar, violin, mandolin, and vocals. From classic jazz and Western swing to original compositions, Rue & Sabien promise a concert that’s both musically sophisticated and joyfully playful.

Tickets are available online, by phone at 385-3339, or in person at the Cultural Center.
