With the fall weather upon us and Thanksgiving and Christmas on their way, there’s no place like a fall bazaar to stock up on treats, winter goodies, and holiday gifts for the months ahead.

Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills will be hosting their annual Fall Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 22 with doors opening at 9 a.m. Coffee, juice, and doughnuts will be available from 9-11 a.m., a chili lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a silent auction will be available until 12:30 p.m. The Bazaar will be open until 1:30 p.m.

“There are about 40 silent auction items already,” said Karen Brasel, one of the bazaar’s organizers. “There are baskets, decorative sets, Christmas decor, puzzles, pickles, wreathes… unique craft items. There’s group of women that get together in the fall and they made over 300 craft items and that’s just that group!”

The annual Fall Bazaar is organized by the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) and is not only a congregational affair, but is aimed at community members near and far to come and share a meal, score some tasty treats, Christmas shop, and visit with old friends. The Bazaar has been held for over 60 years.

“It’s a good time to do some Christmas shopping,” said Brasel. “There’s a lot of Christmas gifts. I love visiting with people that come, that’s my favorite part. Just to see people from the community come and support our bazaar.”

In the past the bazaar has featured a variety of baked goods, handmade crafts, gift baskets, canned goods, decor, cookie boxes, wreaths, jar mixes, candies and much more.

Last year, the Fall Bazaar raised over $10,000 for mission work, which is the main purpose for the proceeds, along with occasional church supplies. With a record amount raised at their most successful bazaar last year, the organizers are eager to share their best gifts and goodies again this year to help fund mission work.

“The proceeds go to missions to spread the Gospel and occasionally for needed items for the church,” said Brasel. “We supported kids who went to Lutheran Island Camp, we sponsor two missionaries, a seminary student, we support the Perry Center, we paid for 18 youth to go to the National Youth Gathering, we give $200 a month to the preschool, we have an adopt-a-student in Haiti, so the majority of it goes to mission work to share the Gospel with others.”
