The New York Mills Junior High knowledge bowl teams wrapped up their seasons on a snowy return trip from Fergus Falls on Tuesday, Nov. 25. There were 15 teams from Perham, Osakis, Pelican Rapids and Breckenridge. NY Mills split the 20 competitors into four teams dividing up the November 5 first place competitors.

Upon arrival the impending snow was a major concern for the students and coaches. After checking the weather between every question set, the meet did complete all written and oral questions.

These youthful trivia wizards had a great competition day. NY Mills Navy started the day in 11th and had one crazy great round putting up 15 points, but they still only mustered a 12th place finish.

Neon had an even better round scoring 18 points that catapulted them to third place, but had a few below average rounds and settled in ninth place.

NY Mills Nest played a game of consistency and started and finished the day in fifth place.

NY Mills Nickel, the last team, started the day in 14th place. They didn’t let the slow start discourage them and weaseled their way up to a third place finish. They also received a special award for largest increase in placing throughout the meet. They did so with a day’s best 19 points in oral round two.

“We worked really well as a team and listened intently to each other. That helped us in the oral rounds,” said eighth grader Isabella Felix.

Great season Junior High Knowledge Bowl. The future looks bright for the upcoming Senior High Seasons.
